1.Background of the Proposal

The Wakamatsu-Kita Coast is an area that combines industrial elements and natural scenery, with a scenic coastline facing the vast Hibikinada Sea, an offshore wind power generation facility that is attracting attention as a renewable energy source, and a spectacular spot for sunsets. This proposal proposes the development of a promenade to promote sustainable community development, tourism, and regional exchange by taking advantage of these regional characteristics.


 

2.Purpose of the Wakamatsu North Coast Trail

– To create a public space where local residents and tourists can spend time with nature.

– To use the promenade as a landscape that attracts tourists.

– To enhance the economic ripple effect by making the area a tourist resource and improving the image of the area.

– Enhance its function as a place to promote the health of local residents and to facilitate interaction between the community.

– Increase interest in offshore wind power and eco-tourism to learn about coexistence with nature.

– Create a public space (coastline promenade) where local residents and tourists can enjoy the scenery of Hibikinada.

– Inviting visitors to a scenic route that takes advantage of the view of Hibikinada and offshore windmills

– Installation of photo spots to attract visitors

– Enhancement of café facilities that attract young people

4.Characteristics of the installation area and proposed concept

– A 5 km long promenade along the coastline from Waita Fishing Pier to Tomigahana Lighthouse.

– A seaside promenade designed in harmony with the landscape, utilizing natural materials.

– Information boards and interpretation panels installed for the North Coast Fossil Area, nearby historic sites, offshore wind power generation   facilities, etc.

– Observation deck (Sunset Point), simple resting space, and benches

– Maintenance of night lighting, etc. suitable for night views of the coastline

– Installation of cameras for crime prevention (anti-poaching)

5.Steps to realization

(1) Exchange of opinions with local residents and related parties, sharing of vision through workshops

(2) Selection of routes to be developed and schematic design (considering nature, safety, and views)

(3) Secure financial resources: Utilize subsidies (national, prefectural, and municipal), corporate sponsorship, and consider private investment   models

(4) Construction in phases: maintenance and operation starting from a model section →  evaluation and expansion
