Revitalizing Wakamatsu through music
Jazz music plays on the station platform, and as you exit the ticket gate, you will see a panel with the “History of Wakamatsu Jazz” on it. This was the era when Wakamatsu was one of the largest coal loading ports in Japan. High-color jazz music from Shanghai was also played in the city. The “Wakamatsu culture” was nurtured in the coal economy. The tradition of jazz music, which played a part in this culture, is still being carried on strongly today.
